What is Science Together?

Science Together gives your family one short science question every evening, written to be read aloud at the table. Everyone locks in a guess, the grown-up reveals the answer, and the family talks about it. It is designed to feel finished after two minutes.

Do my children need their own accounts?

No. There is one family account, on the grown-up's phone, and there are no child logins. The only thing the app knows about a child is a first name and an emoji face, and that stays on your device.

Are there adverts in Science Together?

No. There are no ads, no tracking, no analytics and nothing to scroll, whichever way you join.

How much does Science Together cost?

It is 3.99 pounds a month or 30 pounds a year, always starting with a free trial. The first 100 Founding Families pay 30 pounds once and keep it for good.

Who writes the questions?

Antony O'Sullivan, a working comet scientist and PhD researcher at Cardiff University. Every question comes with a simple answer to read aloud, a deeper layer for when they ask why, a note on what nobody knows yet, and something to try using what you already have at home.

Does NOVA outreach visit schools?

Yes. NOVA outreach delivers curriculum-linked science workshops, VR space experiences and full planetarium days to primary and secondary schools across Wales and the wider UK. Prices start at 200 pounds for a single session, and funded free places are available to state schools whenever funding allows.

The character

The Bearded Scientist

Wildly enthusiastic, magnificently bearded, and absolutely convinced that the universe is extraordinary, and that every child is more extraordinary still. He fronts every NOVA outreach book, app and school session.

The First Steps range opens with Comets Blaze and Amaze! and The Solar System Is Wild and Vast. More titles and a card game are on the way.

The founder

Tony O'Sullivan

Stonemason, then scientist. It turns out the two are not as far apart as people assume.

Tony came back into education the long way round, having worked as a stonemason before returning to study. That route is the whole point: he did not grow up believing science was for him either, and he now spends his working life making sure fewer children reach that conclusion.

He is a PhD researcher at Cardiff University, working across two strands at once: a longitudinal study of science capital in schools across Cardiff and Gwent, and observational work on the unpredictable comet 29P. He wrote both First Steps books, and every question in the Science Together app.

In 2026 he became FameLab UK champion, going on to represent the UK at the international final, and is a finalist for Welsh STEM Ambassador of the Year 2026.
